Blog 2. An excellent film

Last night I was lucky enough to watch Black Swan. A work of art! Intelligent wonderfully acted superbly directed and viually stunning. Coming from the classical world of music I was struck by how true and well the swan lake was used. Unlike the recent film of the Nutcracke. Which was unbarable. The other move so for this year that uses classical music so convincingly is The Kings Speach. This has works by Mozart Beethoven and Brahms. As well as excellent score by Alexandre Desplat. however my favorite score this year so far is Hans Zimmer's Inception. It is a remarkably vibrant and musical feast.
So as for work I completed a commercial for The infinity car company. A very beautifully shot piece. And in NY they are half way through mixing a film I wrote songs fore and arranged and produced the actors who sang in the movie. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Katherine Keener and I collaborated on an arrangement of Robbie Robinson's The Weight. And for 2 non singers they have done a remarkable job. I love them both. I have also taken on another movie project which I plan to talk more about in the new year. Lastly, I've decided to talk on every post just a little bit about my illness. Not a lot and mostly funny stuff that I've been told happened. Given the weather over the last few days this first story is fitting. I guess at some point in either January or February the weather lin califorina was similar to the last few and all I can remember is telling my wife not to Drive our vintage Aston Martin to the hospital from Hancock Park. Because it might get washed away. Instead she must take our truck. Funny thing is I've never owned an Astin Martin. I was very confused. Tonight I plan to watch inception again. More to follow tomorrow. Goodnight and Godbless. And remember who ever you are curling up with tonight be sweet and generous to one another. Life is to short and way to precious.

My First Post

This is my story. I don't wish to bore, so I'll keep it short and to the point. But the plan is to blog daily about my past, my present and the future. For those of you who know me well.....I'm back and back for good! For those of you who do not know me personally, and decide to read this blog, I hope you will find it just a little interesting.
I'm British and grew up in London. I now live in Los Angeles with my wife and 3 children. I'm lucky, I have a truly beautiful family. I've been playing and writing music for as long as I can remember and for the last 18 years have been writing film and TV music, and for that,  I am grateful.

Today marks a new beginning. Both in my career and in my recovery from the most horrendous year of mine and my families life.  On May 7th 2010 I was discharged from UCLA hospital having been there for 6 months. For the first 3 months  I was in a coma and for the last three I underwent my own bone marrow transplant. I was lucky, I had, a rare form of brain cancer called CNS lymphoma. I have been completely cancer free since March, and am completely back to normal. Enough of that, now onto the good stuff. I'm starting a new TV show entitled Alphas, for my dear friend Zak Penn, and I will be talking about this as I start to compose the score for the pilot, and then the series. I'm also collaborating with another dear friend Steven Brand, on a script for a music movie, which we hope to shoot in the not to distant future. It's hard for me not to thank of the many friends who gathered around me and my family when I was so sick but I will, beginning with my wife Philicia, my children Dominic,(15) Max,(6) and Katie (4) my mother Beryl, father Maurice, brother Nicholas, and sister Laurel. My long time music editor Christopher Kennedy and Engineer Philip Bodger. My dear producer and director friends Chris Monger, Rob Cowan, Irwin, Charles and Sandra Winkler, Bruce Beresford, Lesli Glatter, Elizabeth Giersbrook, and many more who you will learn about in the future. Just to finish, today I met with an  extremely talented Director Steven Ayromlooi. More to follow. Good night and God bless.
